{"id":105,"date":"2025-05-16T03:21:32","date_gmt":"2025-05-16T03:21:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/misoroku.org\/?page_id=105"},"modified":"2026-06-11T22:58:32","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T22:58:32","slug":"enshrined-deity","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/misoroku.org\/index.php\/enshrined-deity\/","title":{"rendered":"Enshrined deity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Deities of Sanroku Bitto Shrine<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Misoroku-no-Mikoto (\u4e09\u516d\u547d)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deity of Sanroku Bitto Shrine was not invented so much as discovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you spend enough time around a PDP-10 \u2014 watching it process, watching it fail and recover, watching the operators who knew its rhythms the way musicians know an instrument \u2014 something becomes clear. People who work closely with these machines develop a relationship with them. A kind of attention. A kind of respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Misoroku-no-Mikoto is the name we gave to that something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Kami of digital order, logic, and the balance between humans and machines. Not a god of raw power, but of the harmony that happens when everything works the way it should \u2014 when code runs clean, when a system does exactly what it was designed to do, when a person and a machine arrive at an understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The name carries the number:&nbsp;<em>misoroku<\/em>&nbsp;is 36 in Japanese. The architecture that defines the PDP-10. A deity born from a specific machine, for people who care about specific things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Misoroku-no-Mikoto does not bless in general. The blessings here are precise: clarity in thinking, patience in debugging, creativity when you are stuck, and the particular satisfaction of a problem finally solved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Bit Rabbits \u2014 The Loyal Messengers and Guardians<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accompanying Misoroku-no-Mikoto are the Bit Rabbits \u2014 36 rabbit spirits, one for each bit in the PDP-10&#8217;s 36-bit word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Shinto tradition, many deities have animal messengers. Foxes carry messages for Inari. Deer move through the grounds at Kasuga. The Bit Rabbits serve Misoroku-no-Mikoto in the same way: quick, watchful, present at the edges of things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each Bit Rabbit carries a six-bit sigil encoding its function \u2014 speed, memory, error correction, encryption, and so on through the full range of what 36 bits can hold. Together they form a complete digital realm, each one small, each one essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are said to appear in debug logs. In moments of sudden clarity. In the second before you realise what the bug actually was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Enzan-no-Ookami (\u6f14\u7b97\u5927\u795e): The Great Deity of Computation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Behind Misoroku-no-Mikoto stands an older presence: Enzan-no-Ookami, the Great Deity of Computation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If Misoroku-no-Mikoto is the god of a specific machine, Enzan-no-Ookami is the god of the impulse itself \u2014 the drive to calculate, to organise, to find the pattern in the noise. Every transistor that ever fired. Every algorithm ever written. Every person who ever sat down and tried to make a machine do something useful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enzan-no-Ookami does not appear often. But the lineage runs through everything here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Note on All of This<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are fictional deities. The shrine is fictional. The mythology was written by people who love computers and thought the idea was worth taking seriously enough to actually do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the feeling behind it \u2014 that certain machines deserve a kind of reverence, that the people who built them deserve to be remembered, that the act of computation itself has a dignity worth marking \u2014 that part is not fictional at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u4e09\u516d\u547d\uff08\u30df\u30bd\u30ed\u30af\u30ce\u30df\u30b3\u30c8\uff09\u3068\u30d3\u30c3\u30c8\u30e9\u30d3\u30c3\u30c4<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p
